Up until just over a year ago, I hadn’t read a fictional book in years. Through my work I have to read through hundreds of pages of documents every day, and the idea of flicking through pages of fiction just never really sounded much fun. It was on a train on the way back from a meeting when my assistant was reading her Amazone Kindle, that my mind was changed. She showed me her Kindle books library, which was full of hundreds of books, both fiction and non-fiction. I warmed to the idea of reading through journals and articles of interest, and quickly purchased one. The first ebook I read was one that my manager at work advised me to read; the 50 Economics Ideas ebook. It wasn’t much longer after that, that I tried downloading my first fiction. I have a friend who had worked on the set of an up and coming Zac Efron film and he convinced me to download The Lucky One ebook, which that film was based on.

As much as I have never really been into love stories, I found this book really easy to enjoy. The plot follows a US Marine who finds a picture, in the desert in Iraq, of a woman back in America. From holding on to the picture, it brings him luck even “saving his life”. He then sets out to find the woman in the picture when he returns home. They meet, and engage in a romantic love affair, but he finds it impossible to tell her about the picture.

I wouldn’t want to spoil any more of it for you, but I definitely recommend you getting out there and downloading/ buying it yourself. The running theme of this is about questioning the possibility of fate and destiny, which is always a good subject for debate.

I have been recommended The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo ebook as my next read. I bought the DVD to watch but am yet to get round to doing so. I am debating whether or not I should read the ebook before watching the film. Either ways, I am rather glad that I am getting into fiction again. I find that occasionally, it’s good to get away from the stresses of fact-files, case studies and documents, and just read something that entertains.
